Do you have a passion for film and social change?

Do you want to take your filmmaking skills to the next level?

If you are nodding yes, then this program is for you!

Reel Youth's Intergenerational Film Program is a filmmaking workshop that brings youth together with their mentors and Elders to produce short films. No filmmaking experience is required, and for those who want to deepen their learning, we will be offering additional advanced lessons!

The program will be entirely online - join us for this innovative new style of video production!

In this FREE program, you will:

          • Learn how to plan, shoot, and edit a short film, all from home
          • Receive a $100 honourarium
          • Work creatively with a small group of peers
          • Help tell the stories of a mentor or Elder in your life
          • Have fun!

Your films will be featured at a virtual gala after the program, submitted to the Reel Youth Film Festival, and distributed on Telus' Optik TV, YouTube, and the Reel Youth website.

      You are:

          • Excited about filmmaking and interested in using film for social change
          • Curious to try a new model of pandemic-era filmmaking
          • Between the ages of 13 and 29

          • Available for up to 20 hours of course work outside of the session times
          • Able to access a computer or laptop that can run Zoom (details) and                  Adobe Creative Cloud (details).

We welcome any level of experience, and youth who are Black, Indigenous, POC, female-identified, LGBTQ2S+ or who have disabilities or face systemic or structural barriers are highly encouraged to apply and will be prioritized. In our work we strive to embody what we hope to see in the world—a just humanity and community in which people are free to be themselves fully and without fear. A community where no one is exiled or silenced because of gender, gender expression, race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual/affectional orientation, age, class, physical character or disability. We believe in the power of storytelling to make connections across difference.
