The FRESH CONNECTIONS 4 Film Program is an online workshop that brings together people from across BC, to produce short video poems exploring local histories and current land rights issues, in the context of reconciliation. More details and application for the program.




Submission Period: November 2024 - June 2025 (learn more and submit here

A curated selection of youth made shorts and film festival screenings featuring the work of Reel Youth alumni, program partners, and high school students from across BC and AB. An online showcase for students in BC and Alberta to exhibit their filmmaking and storytelling talents, on TELUS Optik TV through our collaboration with TELUS STORYHIVE. Additionally, those who submit their films will be in the running to receive a $100 prize for their contributions. Five filmmakers will be selected.



Program dates: TBA 2025

Youth participants will foster their creativity, self-expression, and leadership skills by learning filmmaking techniques while forming intergenerational relationships to tell stories about the lives and experiences of their Elders.

Program dates: March - April 2025

This virtual film program for immigrant and refugee youth virtual will foster creativity, self-expression, and leadership skills by learning filmmaking techniques to tell stories about their lives and experiences. A program in partnership with Douglas College LINC program, an immigrant settlement service provided through the National Settlement Program.

The Troublemakers 9 film program gathers a fresh team of aspiring young filmmakers and experienced troublemakers to work together through an eight-session filmmaking program that captures local queer and trans histories.

Program dates: TBA 2025 (Online, application deadline: TBA)

This introspective virtual film program engages emerging film makers to chose a space close to them to make films specific to historical and cultural geography of their surroundings.
The program is centered around decolonizing place and the structures of cinema as participants plan, shoot, and edited their own deeply personal short films.

STORYHIVE is proud to partner with Reel Youth to run the Youth Community Stories program to provide aspiring filmmakers opportunities to explore documentary filmmaking and storytelling with the guidance of experts in the field.
