In October 2024, Reel Youth spent ten meaningful days with the Gwich'in Tribal Council, focusing on building capacity in video production, and facilitating a Youth & Elders Film Program at East Three Secondary School aiming to foster understanding and connection between generations.
This program offered youth participants the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while learning the technical aspects of documentary filmmaking. More importantly, they engaged with local Elders, forming intergenerational relationships that allowed them to share important stories from the Elders' lives and experiences.
We invite you to explore this series of short documentaries that reflect the depth of these connections and honor the heritage of the Gwich'in community. Each film is a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of preserving cultural narratives.
In our work we strive to embody what we hope to see in the world—a just humanity and community in which people are free to be themselves fully and without fear. A community where no one is exiled or silenced because of gender, gender expression, race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual/affectional orientation, age, class, physical character or disability. We believe in the power of storytelling to make connections across difference.
