Reel Youth in partnership with Care for Newcomers is offering a YOUTH & ADULTS DOCUMENTARY FILM PROGRAM this spring!
Young newcomers to Canada will foster their creativity, self-expression, and leadership by learning filmmaking skills while forming peer and intergenerational relationships. Their results will be short documentaries about the lives and experiences of Red Deer's long time residents.
The films will be premiered as part of a community screening, and featured on TELUS' Optik TV streaming service and online.
In this fast paced, FREE program participants will:
•Create a short documentary with a team of other youth
• Learn how to plan, shoot, and edit a short film that helps tell the stories of
an elder in the community
• Get support from Reel Youth facilitators throughout the whole process to
make a powerful film
• Have lots of fun!
• Get lunch and yummy snacks each day

In our work we strive to embody what we hope to see in the world—a just humanity and community in which people are free to be themselves fully and without fear. A community where no one is exiled or silenced because of gender, gender expression, race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual/affectional orientation, age, class, physical character or disability. We believe in the power of storytelling to make connections across difference.
