Do you have a passion for film and want to take
your filmmaking skills to the next level?

Do you want to spend time with a grandparent (online or in person),
and help them tell some of their story through film?

If you are nodding yes, then this program is for you!

The Prince George Youth and Grandparents Film Program is a filmmaking workshop that brings youth together with their grandparent to produce short films. And it is entirely online! Join us for this innovative new style of video production, and a way to safely connect with your elders.

In this FREE program, you will:

          • Learn how to plan, shoot, and edit a short film, all from home
          • Receive a FREE software license for Adobe Premiere Rush
          • Work creatively with a small group of peers
          • Help tell your family's stories
          • Film your grandparents either virtually or in person
          • Have fun!

Up to 40 young people from Prince George and the surrounding area will be chosen to participate in this project, to produce 1 short film each. Your films will be featured at a virtual gala after the program, submitted to the Reel Youth Film Festival, and distributed on YouTube and the Reel Youth website.

      You:

          • Are excited about filmmaking and using film for social change
          • Are curious to try a new model of collaborative, isolation-era filmmaking
          • Are between the ages of 10 and 29
          • Have a grandparent who has agreed to join the program with you
          • Are available for ALL 10 program sessions listed below
          • Can commit to 10-20 hours of course work outside of the session times
          • Have access to a computer or laptop that can run Zoom (details) and                  Adobe Premiere Rush (details).

We welcome any level of experience, and youth who are Black, Indigenous, POC, female-identified, LGBTQ2S+ or who have disabilities or face systemic or structural barriers are highly encouraged to apply and will be prioritized.

Dates will be announced soon!

Highschool students can receive 40 volunteer hours for participating in this program. Please request the volunteer form from your school, and send it to us after the program ends.

In our work we strive to embody what we hope to see in the world—a just humanity and community in which people are free to be themselves fully and without fear. A community where no one is exiled or silenced because of gender, gender expression, race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual/affectional orientation, age, class, physical character or disability. We believe in the power of storytelling to make connections across difference.
